Do herbal teas and green tea have tannin?

Question by wickedgirl6: Do herbal teas and green tea have tannin?
I just read that tannin is good for a flat belly. Okay, laugh at me. I also have a sinus infection, so have been drinking tea more. I drink green tea (which I know has caffeine, but only 25% compared to the coffee I usually drink) and herbal tea.

I want to know which teas have tannin and which don’t and whether the amounts of tannin differ. Thanks!

I think all teas have tannin in them, or the ones with more tannin are the bitter ones that leave that astringent taste in your mouth. Green tea is good for you, but also note that tannin prevents that absorption of iron and other minerals.

Is there a limit to the number of herbal teas one should drink in a day?

Question by Yellow: Is there a limit to the number of herbal teas one should drink in a day?
I’m trying to prevent the onset of a cold that has started slowly in my sinus and throat, so I’ve been drinking a lot of herbal teas with honey.

Should I limit the amount of these that I drink or can I drink one after another all day long?
BTW: The herbal teas I’m drinking are ones like Mint, Cinnamon, Cranberry, e.t.c., and they don’t contain caffeine.

well, I would brush your teeth more often as tea can stain them. And I would dring decaf if you are not already, too much caffeine is not good.

Herbal teas, by there very definition, contain herbs. These compounds are not regulated by the FDA (if you are in the USA). You *can* ingest too much of anything, including herbs, and that can cause your body to respond in ways it might ought not to (elevated blood pressure, tachycardia/rapid heartbeat, etc.).

Your best source of what is really a medical question, is your primary care physician, who should be aware of any physical problems you have as well as any medications you may be on.

Again I’m not a doctor (though I did stay in a Holiday Inn last night), but I would not suggest you drink one herbal tea after the other all day long. A better substitute would be hot water with salt, gargled but not swallowed.

Is there a homoeopathic OR other herbal cure (without side effect) for SINUS?

Question by cureall: Is there a homoeopathic OR other herbal cure (without side effect) for SINUS?

Answer by ffperki
This is a good question, but just what do you mean about Sinus? Are we talking about headaches or are we talking about stuffed up nose? We will talk about the last first stuffiness is cause often by your allergies and can be controlled with a medication from your Doctor, however I have heard all of my life that for allergies, if you can get a bottle of honey from the immediate area of where you live and work and have a table spoon everyday that it often will take care of the allergies. Now for the first one, I just spoke with a neurologist about a week ago about sinus headaches. He informed me that there really isn’t such a thing as a sinus headache, that what you really have is a migraine headache and the best way of dealing with it is to see your doctor. He also told me that the older that you get the headaches will start to go away. I hope that I covered what you were asking, I am sure that some one well meaning will tell you other wise I have just given you the best answer and as you can see from my first part of the answer I support homeopathic Medicine

Effective Sinusitis Herbal Remedies

Are you a long time sinus sufferer who just can’t seem to find relief with the over the counter or prescribed medications? You aren’t alone. Many of the more than 30 million Americans suffering from sinusitis are not getting their needed relief either. The long standing standard of antibiotics as treatment is now being reviewed as new studies have shown that most cases are not actually solved by these. On the other hand, sinusitis herbal remedies have begun to gain ground and have even caught the attention of physicians. However, not all of them are as effective as they claim to be. That’s what we’re here to help you with: finding effective sinusitis herbal remedies.

What you want to look for are herbs that have natural abilities to drain mucus. Most of the time, the sinus condition you have is due to trapped mucus. This can be caused by allergies, viral infections, fungal infections, and, of course, bacterial infections. The standard response of your body to these contaminants is to produce mucus; lots of it to trap whatever it is that is attacking your body. However, in cases of sinusitis, your nasal passages may become swollen, preventing the mucosal secretions from draining. If the contaminant is not removed, at some point, the body starts to produce too much mucus.

This is where your herbs come in. The body is already trying to get rid of the allergen (the material that causes the allergy) or the infection; all you have to do is to use an herb to help the process out. By clearing out the excess mucosal secretions, the body can get rid of whatever is causing your problem naturally. Two herbs you can start with are pepper and horseradish.

Pepper can be used as a natural decongestant. If you have eaten spicy foods before, you already know what I mean. The pepper almost works immediately, helping your body open up the sinuses and drain the mucus better. If you get too liberal with your pepper and get into trouble, drink some full cream milk to cancel the effects. You can retry after the pain subsides.

Horseradish is an herb that induces a warming effect in your body. This will help increase your blood flow. The more blood that reaches the allergy-affected or infected areas of your body, the more immune cells can help with the problem. This warming effect also has a particular effect on mucus, making it thinner and more liquid, allowing it to flow out of the body better.

It has the added bonus of having the ability to stimulate your lymphatic cells which also helps the inflammation you get from sinusitis. However, horseradish isn’t the easiest food to take. It has an odd and even unpleasant odor and taste that may take some getting used to.

You can also try herbs that have positive effects on your body’s immune system. Astragalus is a good example. Around 200mg twice a day is said to stimulate the production of immune cells in your body. An increase in the number of immune cells is always a good thing when you’re suffering from an infection. It also has similar thinning effects like that of the horseradish and ginger. Again, it is best to consult your doctor before trying any of these alternative solutions. Some actually promote the use of natural herbs so you can get more help from them.

The root of the licorice herb can lend a hand in reducing inflammation and boosts the immune system to combat sinus infections at the same time. There are two types of licorice product that are available in the market today, just make sure to take licorice capsules that stimulates the immune system and not those for treating ulcers.

Eucalyptus is also another one of the most effective herbal remedies for sinus infections. It is a fragrant herb that can soothe sore throats. Aside from that eucalyptus also contains antiseptic properties and has the ability to shrink swollen tissues such as swollen sinus passages. This herb is readily available in throat lozenges, or can also be taken as a tea. It is very useful as an inhalant by steeping some eucalyptus in a large pot of boiling water, breathe in its vapor to unblock nasal passages.

You can also use peppermint which has anti-inflammatory properties that helps to calm the mucous membranes. You can use this herb in two simple ways; drink peppermint tea or steep the peppermint and inhale the steam. The scent of this herb when inhaled will help to ease your breathing.

Last but not the least is ginger. This herb can greatly relieve and prevent headaches and also contain anti-inflammatory properties and substances that alleviate pain.
